Privacy Policy

Last updated April 18, 2026.

Symmetry Lab is made by Luke Bradford. This policy covers the iOS apps “Symmetry Lab” and “Symmetry Lab Basic.”

What we collect

The app collects a small amount of anonymous data to keep it running well and to understand how people use it:

Crash and performance data. If the app crashes or runs slowly, technical details (device model, iOS version, a stack trace, and a screenshot of the UI at the moment of the crash) are sent to Sentry so the problem can be diagnosed and fixed.

Anonymous usage events. Actions like creating a pattern, changing brushes or colors, adjusting symmetry, saving, and sharing are sent to PostHog so we can understand which features are used and where people get stuck.

A randomly generated device ID. Both Sentry and PostHog generate an anonymous per-install identifier so that events from the same device can be grouped together. This ID is not tied to your Apple ID, email, name, or anything that identifies you personally.

What we don’t collect

We don’t collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal information.

We don’t collect your precise location. PostHog may infer an approximate country or region from your IP address; we never see or store an exact location.

We don’t use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA).

We don’t track you across other apps or websites.

We don’t sell or share your data with advertisers.

Your drawings

Patterns you create stay on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere. When you share a pattern, you choose where it goes (Photos, Messages, Instagram, etc.); it travels through the iOS share sheet directly, and we never see the image.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. We do not see your payment details. The app checks with Apple whether you are a paid user so it can unlock the appropriate features; that check happens between your device and Apple’s servers.

Feedback you send

If you tap “Contact the Developer” and send an email, that email (and anything you include in it, such as device details the app pre-fills in the body) goes directly to me. It is not shared with anyone else and is kept only as long as needed to respond to you.

Third parties

The app uses these services to process the data described above. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

Sentry — crash and performance reporting: sentry.io/privacy

PostHog — product analytics: posthog.com/privacy

Symmetry Lab is suitable for all ages. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will reflect that. Material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
